Description
No. 53 High Street is a house that forms part of a former row, dating from the 17th to early 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of brick and has a pantile roof. The layout consists of two rooms with a lobby entry on the left and stairs located behind the stack, along with an addition to the rear right. The building is single storey with an attic and features two windows.
There are steps leading to a 20th-century board door set in a wooden architrave beneath a timber lintel, with a 19th-century four-pane sash window to the right, also in a flush wooden architrave beneath a timber lintel. The eaves are stepped, and there are a pair of raking dormers with four-pane sashes and plastered cheeks. The right gable is brick-coped, with an end stack to the right and an axial stack to the left.
On the right return, which faces Fairway, there is a former three-light shop window from the 19th to early 20th century, featuring a frieze, a bracketed cornice, and a hood. To the right of this window is a board door in an architrave beneath a timber lintel, along with a four-pane attic sash in a flush wooden architrave. A later extension at the rear includes a 20th-century recessed board door and a six-pane casement window.
