Description

Island House is a late 18th-century house with 20th-century additions to the rear. It is constructed of brown brick in an English garden wall bond, with a pantile roof. The house originally comprised two rooms at the front, with direct entry to the room on the right, and a single-room extension to the right.

The exterior has two storeys and two first-floor windows, plus a single-storey, single-window extension. A board door, set within an architrave, is flanked by 6/6 sash windows in flush wood architraves, with stone sills and stucco flat arches. The first floor has 3/6 sash windows. The extension features a 6/6 horizontal sliding sash window. A stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice runs along the front, while the rear has a dentilled cornice. Tumbled brick is used to raise the gables, which bear wrought-iron letters “W K” on the left-hand side. End stacks are present.

The interior has not been inspected. Historical records note its inclusion in a list of buildings of local architectural or historical interest compiled by the Grimsby Borough Planning Department in 1972, and in the Scartho Conservation Area designation by Grimsby Borough Council, also in 1972.
