Description
The stable block adjoining Chatt House to the east was built between 1839 and 1840 for S Chapman. It is constructed of grey brick with a slate roof and has an L-shaped plan. The building is a single storey with attics, featuring a main range that consists of 9 bays and a cross wing with 3 bays.
The main range has a balanced elevation with a central carriage entrance that includes 20th-century doors and a fanlight with radial glazing, all set under a segmental brick arch. This entrance is flanked by a scattered arrangement of 16-pane sash windows and boarded doors, with 8-pane sashes located in the attics. The cross wing has a blank, painted 16-pane sash window and 6-pane sashes in the attics. The building also features axial stacks.
