Description
The Chestnuts is a house with origins dating from the early to mid-18th century, which was remodeled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, rendered and colorwashed, featuring a timber eaves cornice and a slate roof. The building has a plinth and rusticated quoins at the first floor level. It stands two storeys tall with attics and has a symmetrical elevation of three bays.
On the ground floor, there is a four-panel door with a fanlight set in panelled reveals and soffit, sheltered by a porch supported by fluted columns and pilasters, which have foliate capitals and an entablature. The windows are two-pane sashes with sills and architraves. A band runs along the first floor. The first floor features three similar two-pane sashes. The eaves cornice is dentilled and bracketed, and there are end stacks on a hipped roof.
