Description
Chatt House is a house built in 1839 for Mr. S. Chapman. It is constructed of grey brick with stone dressings and has a graduated slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features a three-by-three bay layout, with the left and right bays slightly projecting forward. A semicircular porch is supported by Doric pilasters and has an entablature, topped with a blocking course and a railing. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, set under channelled, cambered wedge lintels that have decorated key blocks. There is a band at the first floor level. The left and right bays have similar sash windows, while the central bay features a French door with margin-pane glazing. The eaves overhang, and the roof is hipped with stacks on the rear wall. Inside, the house retains many original features, including a cut-string staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
