Description

The barn and hayloft at Marramatte Farm dates from the late 18th century and features later additions and alterations, including a range to the left that is of no special interest. It was likely designed by Sir Christopher Sykes, 2nd Baronet. The structure is built of pinkish-brown brick in English garden wall bond and has a Welsh slate roof. It stands two storeys high with six first-floor openings and is divided into four bays at either end by pilaster strips.

On the ground floor, there are six original stable entrances with segmental heads made of gauged brick, four of which are now blocked, while the others have board doors. Additionally, there are two inserted entrances with board doors under soldier arches. The building also features four off-centre casement windows under segmental arches. In the centre, a flight of steps leads to the hayloft entrance, which has a board door.

The first floor includes five oculi, one of which is blocked, while the others have pitching doors. There are diamond breathers, stepped and cogged eaves, and a hipped roof. The gable ends are adorned with oculi set within semicircular recesses that have keystones.
