Description
Sledmere Field Cottages is a farmhouse that has been converted into two houses, built in the late 18th century with later additions and alterations. It was designed by Sir Christopher Sykes, the second Baronet. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in an irregular English garden wall bond, with the front facade rendered and a Welsh slate roof.
The structure is two storeys tall and features a symmetrical facade with three bays, including a central projecting bay. There is a later range to the left front that is not of special interest. The entrances are located on the right return of the central bay and the left return, featuring a four-panel, part-glazed door and a boarded door, both topped with segmental heads. The central bay includes a round-arched recess that extends to full height.
On the ground floor, there is a central 19th-century bay window with French doors, while the first floor has a 16-pane sash window with radial glazing at the head. Each wing of the building is similar, with a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor and a 12-pane, unequally-hung sash window on the first floor. The side wings have lean-to roofs, while the central section has a hipped roof and a central stack.
