Description

Thornton Lock is a lock built around 1813 by George Leather for the Pocklington Canal Company. It is constructed of red brick with gritstone dressings. The lock chamber has parallel sides and features recesses for gates, which have since been removed, along with rounded splays at either end. At the time of the last survey, the lock was disused and in a state of dereliction.
