Description
The terrace wall, steps, and associated urns date from the 18th century and are located in Londesborough Park. Constructed from red brick with stone dressings, the terrace wall features stone steps and ends to the east with a series of 12 giant round arches that have an impost band, along with three smaller arches that lack imposts. The wall has a continuous moulded coping that ramps down to the east, leading to a square abutment with a deep moulded cornice, although the ball finial is missing. An extension wall from the 19th century to the east concludes in a square brick abutment with a stone cornice and a ball finial. There are thirteen shallow rectangular steps leading to the top of the terrace, which are flanked on both sides by two oval urns on bases, with larger, similar bases positioned behind them. Statues that were once present are now missing. The cellars of Londesborough Hall, which were not inspected, remain beneath the terrace. This terrace wall marks the southern boundary of the gardens that belonged to the former Londesborough Hall. Londesborough Park is listed in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade II*.
