Description
Garden Cottage, located approximately 50 metres to the west of Burton Constable Hall, is a house built around 1770 with later alterations. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in English garden wall bond, featuring red brick and ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof. The building stands two storeys tall, with the main facade facing the gable end. It has an ashlar plinth and an arcade of three recessed round arches that reach three-quarters of the height, with red brick heads and ashlar imposts. The central entrance has a dilapidated door, and above it is a four-pane sash window on the first floor. The side arches contain inserted casement windows. The pedimented gable features a dentilled cornice that continues around the sides as a band, which includes a semicircular window with a red brick head. The cottage has ashlar copings and a ridge stack. It was built as a pair with the Head Gardener's Cottage and was in the process of restoration at the time of the last survey.
