Description
Nos 11 to 15 on Westgate are 17th century buildings that stand two storeys tall and are constructed of brick. They feature a pantile roof with one dormer and coped gable ends. No 11 is a projecting wing with a gable facing the road, which is cement rendered and has one window with later hung sashes that include glazing bars. Above a canted bay with hung sashes and glazing bars, there is a vermiculated keystone, and the segmental shop front lacks glazing bars. The entrance has double doors and a four-light rectangular fanlight. Nos 13 and 15 each have three windows with hung sashes and wood cases. No 13 features a canted bay on the ground floor and an engaged fluted Tuscan entrance, with a door of six fielded panels and a rectangular fanlight above. No 15 has two similar windows with replaced sashes, a moulded wood doorcase, a tall rectangular fanlight, and a door of six panels, four of which are glazed. The buildings have a rendered plinth, a brick eaves cornice, and the upper courses have been rebuilt. These buildings, along with Nos 7 to 31 and the Avenue Hospital, stables, and wall, form a group, with No 21 (including the former No 19) noted for its local interest.
