Description

Hebblethwaite House, dating from around 1670, is a two-story brick building with rusticated brick quoins and an ornate, coved eaves cornice. It originally had eight windows with leaded casements, wood transoms, and mullions. A moulded brick string course between the floors projects slightly over the windows to form flying cornices. The upper story features a shouldered brick panel with applied consoles above the fourth window from the left, replacing an original pedimented entrance which has now been converted into a window. The end windows have been converted into entrances, one with a late 19th-century brick pediment and the other a reproduction. The building has a rendered plinth and a rainwater head initialled 'W.H.' It was formerly the home of the Hebblethwaite family. The interior includes oak panelling and a chimneypiece with foliage carvings. A panelled room to the rear has a ceiling with a central wreath in high relief. The west half of the house contains an oak staircase with heavy turned balusters and ball-capped newels.
