Description
This is a two-storey and attic building dated 1894, designed by J. E. Elwell. It features an applied, straight, studded half-timber effect above brickwork. The roof is covered in pantiles with three dormers, the two outer ones gabled. The building incorporates applied timber braces to the sides. A coved cornice displays stucco decoration in the form of "honesty" flowers and tendrils arranged in a continuous scroll. The date "December 1894" is inscribed at the centre. Two rectangular oriels are present, one with four and the other with six lights, both with side lights set on brackets featuring carved figures. A central window has four lights, the upper section of which contains glazing bars. The ground floor has two windows, one with four lights and the other with six, both incorporating glazing bars and set within carved wooden bands. The wooden doorway is flanked by carved beasts, above which is a carved panel depicting a scene from "The Cloister and the Hearth"—the carving of toy wooden horses—with the inscription "We like to go as near nature as we can for 6 pence". The interior reflects Queen Anne revival influences, incorporating mixed early and late Georgian and Regency motifs.
