Description
Number 39 North Bar Without is a building dating from 1769, designed by William Middleton, with a later added top storey. It stands three storeys high and is constructed of brick, topped with modern pantiles. The building features a wooden boxed gutter supported by widely spaced moulded stone modillions. There are five windows with rendered lintels, which have been reglazed with plate glass. The entrance has a wooden doorcase that includes a moulded architrave, consoles, a frieze with a central tablet displaying an 'Adam' urn, and a pediment above a six-panel door with a Gothick fanlight. Additionally, there are wrought iron bay windows from the 19th century that replicate details from the doorcase.
