Description
27 Bridgegate is a shop and flat dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of colour-washed brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and has two bays. The shop front is from the 19th century and includes a central doorway, with an entrance to the flat on the right. The recessed glazed door is flanked by two 2-pane plate-glass windows that have semicircular glazing bars at the tops. To the right, there is a four-panel door with an overlight. The façade is enhanced by pilaster strips with scrolled consoles that support dosserets adorned with acanthus motifs, and a plain frieze with a cornice above that is carried on paired brackets. The first and second floors feature four-pane sash windows with stone sills and wedge lintels. The roof is hipped, and there is a stack at the right end. This building is included for its group value.
