Description
The monumental arch, located approximately 60 metres south of Rawcliffe Hall, dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and is designed in a classical style. The arch measures about 5 metres wide, 1 metre deep, and 5 metres high. It features a Doric design with paired columns, consisting of outer square columns and inner round columns set on pedestals. These columns support an entablature that includes a plain frieze, cornice, and blocking course. There are also single round columns on the returns of the arch. This structure stands over a pathway leading to the former walled gardens and was likely originally a porch, possibly from an earlier version of the current late 19th-century Rawcliffe Hall.
