Description
Nos 7 and 9 North Bar Within in Beverley are 18th century buildings with a front elevation that features an older core, showing remnants of half-timbering at the north end. The structures are two storeys tall with an attic, built of painted brick and topped with a fairly steep machine tile roof. There are two square-headed dormers with moulded cornices and sash windows that include glazing bars. A lead rainwater head is present. The first floor has five windows, all hung sashes with glazing bars. The late 19th century shop fronts are made of wood.
The passage door is framed with a wooden case that includes pilasters and a lintel decorated with paterae and guilloche. There is an ornamental dummy fanlight above the south entry. Inside, there are two staircases, both featuring plain newels, simply moulded handrails, and closed strings, with one staircase having a moulded string with a pulvinated frieze. The interiors also include three 18th century chimneypieces, two of which have moulded architraves, while one has a bolection surround. At least one door has three bolection moulded panels. The shop interior features an early 19th century three-bay arcade with depressed arches supported by cast iron Tuscan columns.
