Description
No 5 North Bar Within is a house and shop dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a pantile roof. The building has two bays and three storeys. The ground floor has a late 19th-century shop front with a recessed entrance. To the left, there is a five-panel door with a blind overlight set in a moulded architrave. A dentilled cornice runs across the full width above.
On the first floor, there is a sill band and two late 19th-century bay windows, each with paired plate glass sashes in pilastered surrounds topped with dentilled cornices. The second floor features another sill band and two unequal nine-pane sashes beneath cambered ashlar heads. The eaves are bracketed, and the gables are stone-coped with rendered end stacks. Inside, there is a 19th-century staircase. The building is included for its group value.
