Description
The Vicarage is a house dating from 1821, with an addition made in 1841. It is constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stone dressings and a Westmorland slate roof. The main garden front has two storeys and four bays, featuring sash windows with glazing bars, the ground floor windows being taller than those above, all set beneath wedge lintels. A continuous sill runs along the first-floor windows. The roof is hipped and incorporates stacks rising through its pitch. A fine, glazed timber conservatory provides access from the left return. Inside, the present kitchen occupies what was originally the dining room, featuring an elliptical arch that defines the service area. The drawing room is characterised by a fluted cornice with decorative paterae at the angles and an egg-and-dart frieze. An elliptical archway defines the entrance hall. A cantilevered open-string staircase has square-section balusters.
