Description

These are nine houses at 49-53 Greendale Road, Port Sunlight, built in 1901 by Grayson and Ould. The houses are constructed with roughcast on a brick base, stone dressings, some timber framing to the first floor, and tile roofs. They are one storey with attics, arranged in five bays, with projecting end bays. The first bay has a half-hipped gable, and the fifth bay is hipped, both topped with ball finials. The first floor of the other bays is jettied, supported by bressumers. The windows are small-paned casements, with a five-light rectangular bay window to the first bay, two-storey gabled canted bay windows to the second, third, and fourth bays (ground floor windows are five-light, first floor windows are three-light), and a four-light window to the fifth bay. The entrance doors are planked with small-paned lights, and have decorated stone lintels. There are three cross-axial and return lateral stacks. A recessed corner block features stone dressings and double-chamfered mullioned windows, topped with a short octagonal swept tile spire. The facade facing The Causeway is similar, with two-storey canted bay windows, hipped roofs with gablets, and decorative timber framing.
