Description

14 to 20 Manor Place is a terrace of four houses built around 1856 for James and George Wilson. The houses are constructed of brick and feature a hipped slate roof. They are two storeys high and consist of six bays, with the end bays projecting forward. The windows have gauged-brick cambered arches and are sashed with glazing bars. The end bays include rectangular bay windows topped with hipped roofs, and the small-paned casements in the sixth bay have been altered. The entrances also feature gauged-brick cambered arches, overlights with glazing bars, and four flush-panel doors. Number 18 has a timber gabled porch with lattice panels, which is likely original. The side returns have 20th-century flat-roofed projections. There are three cross-axial stacks, and the rear of the houses has lean-to wings. This terrace is part of a planned village for Price's Patent Candle Company, representing one of the earliest examples of a model industrial village.
