Description
This is a terrace of fifteen houses located on Queen Mary’s Drive, Port Sunlight, built in 1913 by J. Lomax Simpson. The houses are constructed with a brick base up to sill level, brickwork for the main walls, weatherboard cladding on the first floor, timber-framed returns, and roughcast wings, all topped with stone slate hipped roofs.
The terrace is two storeys high, with an eleven-bay central section that has a jettied first floor. The central three bays of this section project forward, with the central bay projecting even further, all under gables. The three-bay returns also project, with the inner bays set under gables. The five-bay wings have outer bays that also project forward under jettied gables. The central section features a roughcast first floor with weatherboarded gables, while the wings have timber-framed upper levels, except for the ground floor of the left-hand wing. Drip mouldings are supported by brackets on the wings.
The windows are leaded casements, some with diamond-shaped and others with rectangular quarries, mostly arranged in groups of four lights. The three central bays have four-light canted oriels on the first floor. The entrances include two-panel doors with leaded lights, while the wings have flat canopies, and the returns feature lean-to porches. There are eleven cross-axial stacks, two in the roof pitch of the wings, and two lateral stacks to the returns. The rear elevations are similar, with a roughcast first floor.
