Description

The memorial drinking fountain, located opposite the main entrance to Birkenhead Park, was erected in 1860. It is designed in the form of an obelisk made of polished granite, which stands on a pedimented plinth raised up on steps. An inscription on the plinth states, "Erected by public subscription to the memory of the late John Somerville Jackson, magistrate d. June 8 1860." The fountain features small projecting basins on two sides, which are now damaged.
