Description

The Bradley Swing Bridge is a swing bridge built around 1857, during a period of significant work on the canal. It features iron girders with timber decking, which is now covered with tarmac. At the pivot end, two iron posts support iron stays, and there are 20th-century handrails. The turning gear is still present under the pivot end, which is situated in a stone-lined recess on the north side of the canal. This bridge is notable as it is the only remaining swing bridge on the Sankey Canal and may have replaced a bridge from around 1756, suggesting that the stone-lined recess could be original.
