Description
The presbytery to the Roman Catholic Church of St Joseph is a building likely constructed between 1865 and 1867. It is made of red brick in English garden wall bond with blue brick bands and features a hipped slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with an additional porch-bay on the right side.
The presbytery is two storeys tall and has a six-window range. There are two pairs of windows in the main section and another pair in the porch-bay, which is slightly set back. The porch-bay includes a segmental-pointed doorway with a polychrome brick head, keystone, and hoodmould, along with a pair of narrow segmental-headed 1/1 sash windows above.
To the left of the main range, there is a canted bay window with segmental-headed 1/1 sashes that also have polychrome heads and a shallow hipped roof. To the right, there are two tall segmental-headed sash windows. On the first floor, there are two pairs of shorter windows, all with stepped surrounds, and the first-floor windows have continuous sills for each pair. A chimney is located at the center of the roof, and there is a very large stair window in the right-hand return wall.
The presbytery forms a group with the associated Church of St Joseph. The interior has not been inspected.
