Description

This is a villa dating from approximately 1850 to 1854, designed by John Aughton. It is constructed of white-painted stucco with slate roofs. The building has an irregular cruciform plan, consisting of a single-depth main range set at a right angle to the street and side wings close to the front.

The exterior is two and three storeys high, and features a three-window front. The composition is almost symmetrical, with a projecting three-storey gabled central section flanked by set-back two-storey wings, plus a porch in the angle to the right. The building has first-floor sill bands and rusticated quoins on all three sections. The central section has a canted bay window at ground floor, with pilasters, a dentilled and modillioned cornice, and ornamental cast-iron railings with intersecting oval motifs and finials. The windows are 1/1 and 2/2 sashes without horns. The upper floors of the centre feature 2/2 unhorned sash windows with shouldered architraves. The porch to the right has round-headed open arches to the front and side, with imposts and keystones, mirroring details of the bay window, including the railings. Each side wing has a single 2/2 unhorned sash window on each floor, with architraves similar to those in the centre. Tall corniced chimneys are located to the left side of the main range and to the rear of the wings. The left gable wall of the left wing has a canted bay window mirroring the front. The interior has not been inspected. The villa forms a group with No. 2 to the right, which is its reflected pair.
