Description
The entrance gateway to Merchant Taylors School (Boys) is located on Liverpool Road and dates from around 1878. It features a set of four stone gate piers with gates. The piers are made of sandstone and are large and square with chamfered bases, stop-chamfered corners, and cavetto friezes that include Tudor rose decorations. Each pier has a weathered pyramidal top with small trefoil lucarnes on each side. The gateway includes double carriage gates and single pedestrian gates that have dog-bars, circular tracery top panels, and scrolled cresting. This gateway is part of a group that includes the associated entrance lodge and the main school building.
