Description

This is a late 19th-century commercial building with two shops at ground level and offices above, featuring an attached verandah. The building is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings, which have been painted white, and has a slate roof. The verandah is made of cast iron and glass. It is designed in an Edwardian Baroque style.

The exterior has four storeys and two bays, and features pilaster strips, sill bands, and a pair of stepped gables, each with a triangular shaft in the centre. The ground floor has altered shop fronts. The first floor displays a large, round-headed keyed arch in the centre of each bay, containing a canted oriel window, flanked by single-light windows. The second floor has two semicircular arched windows, each with imposts and a keyed arch band. The third floor has a pair of square windows within an architrave of paired colonettes with a cornice. The left bay’s windows have two arched lights with transoms, while those in the right-hand bay have altered glazing.

The verandah has cast-iron, fluted Corinthian columns, altered fascias, and a single-pitched glazed roof.

The interior of the building has not been inspected.

The building forms a group with numbers 179-205 to the left and numbers 215-219 to the right, and the verandah is part of the series which defines the character of Lord Street.
