Numbers 335 and 337 with Attached Verandah

Numbers 335 and 337, with an attached verandah, is a shop with offices above, built in 1884 and altered since. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone dressings painted white and some red terracotta, topped with a slate roof. It is designed in a free Jacobean style and has a rectangular plan that runs at right angles to the street.

The exterior consists of three storeys and two-and-a-half bays. The ground floor features an altered shop front that projects forward, showcasing a large original entablature with a dentilled cornice and massive terminal consoles adorned with swags of flowers and swan-neck pediments. To the left, there is a narrow bay with an enriched semicircular arch leading to a passage entry. The upper floors are decorated with stone bands and string-courses, a frieze of swagged terracotta panels, a dentilled terracotta cornice, and terracotta balustrades. In the center, there is a brick pilastered upstand with two panels of gilded foliation and a dentilled terracotta pediment with a swag.

A large canted stone bay window on the first floor is supported by pilasters and features a moulded cornice, a frieze with foliated panels, and scrolled supporters leading to a central pedestal with an urn. The window is fitted with sashed glazing that includes Art Deco stained glass in the upper sections. On the second floor, there are a pair of elliptical-headed four-light windows with double transoms and moulded heads featuring keystones. The narrow side bay has one lancet window on each floor, with the upper window having a stilted arched head.

The prominent two-bay verandah is supported by fluted cast-iron columns and features large open-work brackets, a pierced frieze, an oversailing gutter cornice with pendent swagging, cresting with terminal finials, and a curved glass roof.

The interior has not been inspected. This building forms a group with No. 331 and Nos. 339-353, which are adjacent to it, and the verandah is part of the series that characterizes this street.
