Description
Croston's Brow: First Cottage is a house, likely built in the late 18th century, that has been altered over time. It features white painted roughcast render, probably over brick, and a slate roof with rendered chimneys. The building has a double-depth, three-bay plan, with a 20th-century addition at the rear.
The exterior is a single storey with a three-window range. There is a 20th-century gabled porch positioned to the left, with one window to the left of the porch and two to the right. All windows are segmental-headed, two-light casements with 20th-century glazing. The gable chimneys and a ridge chimney are offset to the right.
The interior has not been inspected. This cottage is a recognizable example of a dwelling type that was once common in the area. It forms a group with the adjoining Second Cottage to the left and with Nos 1, 3, and 4 Cotty's Brow.
