Description

The Methodist Church Hall, originally a Sunday School and caretaker's house, was built around 1891 and has undergone some alterations, including additions from the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and features slate roofs in a Gothic style. The building has a modified L-plan, with a large hall oriented east-west, a south wing at the east end, and an apsidal west wing at the center.

The exterior showcases a gabled west front that presents a striking asymmetrical design. The roof on the right slopes down to meet a set-back integral porch, which includes a lateral apse. The main section of the hall is framed by massive buttresses that rise to pinnacles with saddleback coping, surrounding a large 2-centred arched window. This window has a chamfered surround and is divided by two moulded mullions, with the lower section featuring windows of 2:3:2 lights adorned with intersecting cusped tracery, and the upper section containing 1:2:1 tall lancet lights.

To the right of the main hall, the porch features a slightly projected gabled doorway that is chamfered in two orders. Attached to the south side of the porch is a five-sided apse with a weathered plinth, weathered sill, short 2-centred arched windows with quatrefoils in the heads, a parapet, and a hipped roof. The south side wall of the building is now mostly obscured by a 20th-century flat-roofed extension. The south wing includes a semicircular apse topped with a conical roof and features continuous arcaded lancet windows, with alternate lights being blind.

The interior has not been inspected. This building forms a group with the associated Leyland Road Methodist Church located to the south.
