Description
Formby Hall is a house built around 1620, with 18th century extensions and later alterations. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a stucco finish. The building has three storeys and five bays, with the end bays rising to two storeys. The second and fourth bays project forward. The hall features an embattled parapet, flat pilaster strips on the end bays, and rusticated quoins on the second and fourth bays. The windows are five-light with ogee-traceried heads and large diamond panes, and there are stucco label moulds above them. The second-floor windows are three-light, while the end bay windows are two-light above ogee-headed blind entrances. The central section has a canted bay with three-light transomed windows and an embattled parapet, though the doors have been removed. The rear facade includes sashed windows with glazing bars and labels above the ground floor windows, along with a cornice at the first floor.
To the northwest, there is a one-storey wing with an embattled parapet and a bowed end. To the northeast, a square tower features an embattled parapet and small-paned casements. Inside, the central room has two Doric columns on the south side, opposite a fireplace with Doric columns and an iron grate. There are several 18th century fireplaces, one of which is made of marble but is damaged. The central first-floor room has a groined vault, and another room features an early 19th century grate. A late 19th century staircase is also present.
