Description
The gate posts and gates at the main entrance to the Botanic Gardens in Southport were likely built around 1876. They feature cast-iron posts and wrought-iron gates. There are six octagonal posts, with the outermost posts attached to the projected bays of the lodges, creating a carriage gateway along with two pairs of pedestrian gateways, which are of unequal width. While the wrought-iron pedestrian gates remain, the carriage gates are now missing. This structure is part of a group that includes No. 1 Lodge and No. 2 Lodge, and it collectively forms a group with the Museum located to the north.
