Description
The Hare and Hounds is a public house located in West Derby Village, dating from the early 19th century, with some details possibly added in the 1930s. The building is constructed of stucco and features a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has three bays, with a narrow canted corner bay on the left side.
The ground floor is adorned with a frieze, and there is a top entablature with pediments over the end bays, while the central blocking course features a gable. The two ground floor windows have architraves with cable moulding and rectangular panels, with sills that display Vitruvian scrolls on consoles. The windows are small-paned casements. There are round-headed entrances on either side, which are framed by continuous mouldings, half-glazed doorcases, and doors, all topped with complete fanlights.
On the first floor, the central bay contains three narrow windows that are complemented by a 1930s iron balcony. The end bays feature windows flanked by panels, and all the windows are sashes with glazing bars.
