Description
The monument in West Derby Village, built between 1861 and 1870, was designed by Eden Nesfield with carvings by Forsyth. It features a stone base consisting of three square steps on a stone pavement, which is surrounded by iron railings. The monument has a high moulded plinth and a circular stone column, with four marble columns positioned at the angles. Each column has Gothic carved capitals and reliefs depicting the four evangelists. At the top of the monument is a large seated figure of Christ, enclosed in a square aedicule with three open cusped sides and a rear panel featuring carvings of the Hand of God, Adam and Eve, and the Crucifixion. This structure is an impressive example of "Early French" Gothic architecture.
