Description

This is a terrace of four houses built in the 1850s. The houses are constructed of stucco and feature a hipped roof. They rise three storeys with a basement and have projecting bays. The central bay stands out, while the flanking bays also break forward, as do the first and last three bays. There is a lintel band at the basement level, a frieze and cornice above the ground floor, and sill courses on the first and second floors. The top has an entablature and a parapet with pierced panels at the fourth and eighth bays. The facade features channelled rustication on all but the fourth and eighth bays. Most windows are sashed with glazing bars and have architraves. The end bays have first floor windows adorned with consoled archivolts and shell tympana, while other first floor windows have friezes and consoled cornices. The bays adjacent to the central bay have round-headed windows with keystones. Enclosed porches feature round-headed entrances with impost courses and archivolts, as well as parapets with pierced panels and four-panel doors. Number 1 has decorative iron area railings, while number 4 has iron area railings with spear heads, casement windows on the ground floor, and a bow recessed projection with an oeil-de-boeuf window. The rear facade includes end bowed bays with iron balconies and first floor verandahs for the recessed bays.
