Description
Eldon Grove Labourers' Dwellings, West Block, are council houses that opened in June 1912. They are constructed from brick, cement, and render, featuring implanted timber framing. The building has a hipped roof covered with blue and grey slates and is a three-storey rectangular block characterized by framed and gabled bays, with the central bay being larger than the side bays. The flats are accessed from a railed walkway, and the upper-floor flats are reached via segmental-arched open stairwells that lead to first- and second-floor balconies stretching between the gabled bays. The doors and glazing maintain an original design. There are chimney stacks on the front and rear roof slopes, as well as on the returns. This western block is part of a group of three blocks, all identical in design to the eastern block. It also forms a group with the railings to the recreation ground and lamp standards.
