Description
The Old Rectory, now part of the High School, is a house dating from around 1800, with a port cochere added around 1830. It is built of stone and has a slate roof, standing three storeys high with a layout of seven by three bays. The first floor features a continuous hood mould, while the building is topped with an embattled parapet and gables. The windows are sash style with Gothic glazing, and the second-floor windows have label moulds. The south front facing the road has three gables above narrow rectangular projecting bays, with the lowest windows heavily barred. The central bay includes diagonal buttresses and a blind cross in the gable. On the north side, there is an octagonal stair turret. The impressive west port cochere consists of three Tudor arches and an octagonal turret or buttress with castellations and moulded finials, although the roof was removed in 1984.
