Description
Quarry Bank House is a house, now a school, built in 1866. It features rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof adorned with fishscale bands. The building has an irregular plan, is two storeys tall with an attic, and consists of six bays. The first bay is recessed, while the second and fourth bays project, all topped with gables. Most windows are mullioned, with some featuring segmental-pointed heads and tympana. The fourth bay includes a projecting three-light window with arms on the parapet, and the fifth bay has a canted extruded corner. The end bay has a large ground floor projection with a canted end and parapet. The fourth bay also has a three-light first floor window with a tympanum dated 1867 on the central light, and an attic window above that features a balcony. The end bay has a corbelled half-dormer on the left. The left return is similar, with a terrace, while the rear is more utilitarian. Inside, there is an entrance hall with richly paneled walls and doors. The timber gallery has canted inner angles and chamfered beams, along with a roof light. The staircase includes a three-light stained glass window, and the room to the left of the hall boasts a richly moulded plaster ceiling.
