Description
Kirby House is a house built around 1830, located on Woods End Road in Kirby Bedon. It is constructed of brick with a gault brick facade and features slate roofs. The facade is two storeys high and consists of six bays, although a contemporary addition on the right side disrupts the symmetry of the elevation.
The entrance is a two-storey crenellated square porch, accessed through a panelled door that is framed by fluted pilasters. These pilasters extend to a shell hood supported by paired brackets, which contains a seven-vaned fanlight. This doorway is a later addition. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, set beneath gauged skewback arches. There is a modillion eaves cornice below the hipped roof, and three stacks are located on the rear roof slope. A rear wing was added in the 1930s. Inside, the staircase features an open string design with twisted balusters and a ramped and wreathed handrail.
