Description

This is a terrace of fourteen houses, numbers 25a to 36 Falkner Square, and number 19a Sandon Street, built around 1835. The houses are stucco-faced with slate roofs. They are two or three storeys high, with three bays to each house. Number 19a Sandon Street is similar in style, distinguished by an entrance with a segmental pediment and two missing iron lamp standards.

Most ground-floor windows have architraves, and most first-floor windows have balustraded balconies. Decorative iron area railings run along the front, set within stone gate piers and walls. Numbers 25 and 26 are in a derelict condition, with boarded windows and paired Ionic porches flanked by two-storey canted bays with iron balustrades. Number 26 has an added attic storey. Number 27 was derelict in 1984 and has boarded windows and an Ionic porch. Number 28 retains sash windows with glazing bars, and its entrance is within an architrave. Number 29, of three storeys, features a two-storey canted bay with a balustrade, and its entrance has an architrave, although the windows lack architraves. Number 30, also of three storeys, has an Ionic porch and iron gate piers. Number 31 is similar to number 30, but with boarded ground-floor windows. Number 32 mirrors number 29, with sash windows having margin lights. Number 33, of two storeys, has eared architraves to its ground-floor windows, sash windows with margin lights, an architrave-surrounded entrance and a top balcony. Number 34 is similar to number 33, but with a porch supported by antae. Number 35 also has three storeys, a two-storey canted bay, and an Ionic porch. Number 25a Falkner Square is a three-bay structure facing onto Grove Street, with a three-bay return fronting Falkner Square.
