Description
Barclay's Bank is a bank building dating from around 1900, possibly designed by F. Doyle. It is constructed of red brick and stone, topped with a slate mansard roof. The building has two storeys with an attic, featuring three bays on the main facade and a canted corner bay, along with four bays facing Victoria Road. The ground floor showcases channelled rustication, while the first floor has rusticated quoin strips and a top entablature. The ground floor windows are round-headed with recessed panelled aprons and casements, while the first-floor windows have cut-brick flat arches and are sashed with margin lights. The attic includes flat-topped dormers with sashes. The corner entrance is accentuated by Tuscan columns and a curved entablature with antefixae, topped by a tented stone roof. The first floor also features channelled rustication. The roof is adorned with a Liverbird and swags, and includes an attic round window with a lead wreath surround, swag, and cherub's head. There are three tall stone stacks, and the facade on Victoria Road is similar in style.
