Description
The National and Provincial Building Society is an office building constructed in 1893, possibly designed by Grayson. It is made of white stone and features four storeys with attics and five bays. The ground floor has been modernized, while the first and second floors showcase three central windows flanked by pilasters and carved panels, along with shallow two-storey oriel windows. Above these, there is a richly carved frieze and an embellished cornice. The top floor has round-arched windows arranged in a 3:5:3 pattern, with the outer windows featuring iron balustraded balconies. At the top, there is a carved parapet adorned with interlaced panels, three gables that include columns, pilasters, tiers of arcading, and figures of tritons as supporters. The central gable displays the Lancaster arms, while the outer gables are topped with pineapple finials.
