Description

This is a terrace of four houses located on Hope Street, dating from the early 19th century, with a date of 1819 noted on the rainwater head. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a slate roof. Each house has three storeys and a basement, with three bays for each house; however, no. 29A has two bays facing Hope Street and three bays facing Arrad Street.

Architectural details include a first-floor sill band and a top cornice. The windows have wedge lintels and are mostly sash windows. Each house has a central round-arched entrance with Doric doorcases and six-panel doors. No. 25 features glazing bars on the sashes, but its doorcase lacks columns. No. 27 has a complete fanlight above the entrance. No. 29 includes glazing bars on the ground floor sashes and two bowed iron balconies on the first floor, positioned at the second and third bay windows. No. 29A has casement windows on the first floor, with an entrance on the Arrad Street facade that features a panelled doorcase and a complete fanlight, while its bays have blind windows. The terrace is complemented by plain iron area railings and rusticated gate piers topped with hemisphere finials.
