Description
28A and 28 Church Road North are two houses from the mid-18th century, one of which was later converted into a synagogue, and both are now apartments. They are constructed of brick with stone and stucco details and have a slate roof. The building has two storeys, with No 28A featuring nine bays, while No 28 has three bays, with two recessed and lower bays at each end. The stone base, top frieze, and cornice add to the architectural detail. The windows have rusticated wedge lintels and are sash style with glazing bars; the first-floor windows of No 28A are thicker, suggesting they may be older. The central entrance of No 28A includes an architrave, a complete overlight, and a six-panel door set within an aedicule that has paired panelled pilasters with consoles and a pulvinated frieze. The entrance to the first bay of No 28 features an enclosed porch with a rusticated lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
