Description
The Clock Tower, built in 1884 by Sir J.A. Picton in memory of his wife who passed away in 1879, is a stone structure featuring three stages and a rusticated base on three steps. The first stage has quoin strips and plaques on all four sides that display a memorial inscription and verse. Above this, there is a band and round-arched recesses with roundels. The first stage is topped with a consoled cornice that has urns at the corners. The second stage features recessed, curved corners with round-headed windows that have consoled sills, flat pilasters, and keyed archivolts, along with a frieze and cornice. The third stage also has recessed rounded corners and a four-faced clock with consoled segmental open pediments. At the top, there is a lead cupola with a short swept spire. Additionally, there are four iron lamps at the corners of the tower, each with lantern tops and dolphins entwined at the base.
