Description
Everton Library is a building constructed in 1896 by Thomas Shelmerdine. It is made of brick and stone with a tiled roof and features two storeys, three bays, and an octagonal corner turret. The design is in a free style.
The interior includes decorative iron railings on the balconies and a circular iron staircase located in the angle of the building. The plan is irregular, with a barrel-shaped roof made of glass panels over the main hall and shallow domed lights above the central area.
The exterior showcases three gables, stone dentilled cornices, and ornamented cornice bands. The windows are stone mullioned and transomed, adorned with ornamental panels. At the entrance, there are four squat round columns in antis, topped with a carved stone panel that displays the date of construction. The corner facing Beacon Lane features a squat octagon with four columns, iron gates, ornamented stone panels, upper windows, and a concave-sided turret with a short spire. An ornamented plaque noting the library's opening is situated next to the turret.
