Library. 1902-3, Thomas Shelmerdine. Red brick, dressed stone, slate roof. One storey, 3 bays; end bays break forward under gables, central bay recessed over entrance, with shaped gable. Stone quoins and bands to gables modillioned cornice. End bay windows are tripartite with rusticated Ionic colonnettes and antae, entablatures with pulvinated cornices. Diocletian windows above with Gibbs surrounds and triple keys. Gables have flanking scrolls and obelisks. Central entrance with flanking 2-light windows. Rustictated tetrastyle Ionic colonnade with central open pediment. Entrance has architrave with triple key. Balustrade above, and recessed shaped gable with 2-light window with pediment. Windows have sashes and casements with glazing bars. Interior has 3 identical parallel rooms, with 3 iron queen-post roofs with dentils, and a clerestory with dentilled cornice. Plaque to commemorate opening to rear of central room, bronze with enamel.
