Description
No. 240 Picton Road is a former brewery and malt kiln dating from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and features seven bays, with two bays at each end that project forward under a pediment. The central three bays have a band above the first floor, a top frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course with a central gable. The raking cornice to the left pediment is missing as of 1984. The windows have wedge lintels and 2-light casements, but the windows in the first five bays are blocked as of 1984. The end bays have plaster panels that were inscribed with "ROSE BREWERY" and "AND MALT KILN," although these inscriptions are now painted over as of 1984.
