Description
Picton Sports Centre, located at 246 Picton Road, is a public baths building from the early 1900s, likely designed by T. Shelmerdine. It is constructed of brick and painted stone, featuring a hipped slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with the end bays projecting forward under gables. The first floor is made of stone and has a top cornice. The end bays contain four-light windows set in recessed stone reveals, while the first floor has smaller four-light windows, all fitted with small-paned casements. The central bay features a six-light window on the first floor. The entrance is flanked by two-light windows, all adorned with eared architraves. The porch has a wide elliptical arch with a Gibbs surround and a triple key. The gables are decorated with cartouches in frames topped with segmental pediments. There are two stone cross-axial stacks that are battered. The left return of the building includes No. 2 Glynn Street, which is a two-storey, two-bay house. This structure offers an interesting comparison to the Wavertree District Library.
